Vols have attention of in-state's Jarek Campbell

Murfreesboro, Tennessee athlete Jarek Campbell has seen the recruiting process up close and personal. He's seen others from his hometown go off to the likes of Tennessee, LSU and other top programs. He's played alongside a teammate that is headed to Georgia Tech. Now, the likes of Tennessee, Kentucky and Memphis have all offered the versatile playmaker.

"Coaches tell me I'm big and fast," Campbell said. "I love to hit. Last year I played outside linebacker, but I'm switching back to safety with Gentry (Bonds) gone to Georgia Tech. I'm playing the position he played last year."

So why the move to safety? It's where he'll likely play at the next level.

"I'm going to be playing more safety this year," Campbell said. "Coach Buck (Fitzgerald) thinks I'll be successful there and my high school coaches say they can use me on both sides of the ball more effectively."

Campbell has Tennessee very high on his list. He understands what it means to play for the home state school and likes the way the Vols are recruiting him.

"They have showed me a lot of love and attention," Campbell said. "I love everything about what they have to offer. They are recruiting me the hardest along with Memphis. Coach Azzanni is always checking on me and just building our relationship."

His fellow Riverdale teammate D'Andre Litaker has several big time offers as well. The two have really bonded over the last few months as Litaker recovers from knee surgery and copes with the tragic passing of his mother. The chance to bounce the recruiting process off each other keeps them sharp when dealing with coaches and the overall process.

"It's a fun experience," Campbell said. "We talk about everything that we like and don't like. We just go through this together and it's nice to have a friend that is going through this with me. I think it helps us both."

Campbell will join Litaker on a tour of different schools this spring. The duo will also get back to work in preparation for their senior season.

"We are going to back to work," Campbell said. "We have to work to get farther next year. Just set big goals and while we lost some people, we didn't lose everyone. We should be good."

Rivals.com ranks Campbell as a 3-star wide receiver in the class of 2018.
