Walker beginning to emerge as a headliner in 2019

ATLANTA, Ga. — The amount of talent the state of Tennessee has produced recently is well documented and the stream of top-level prospects is likely continue into the 2018 and 2019 classes.

One player that will almost certainly be a top recruit in the Misstate in 2019 is Ensworth’s Wesley Walker who participated in Sunday's Underclassmen Challenge in the Georgia Dome.

The rising sophomore turned heads during his freshman year for the Tigers and recently camped with the Vols at Tennessee State University.

“It was really nice because it was how it would be if I went to Tennessee,” Walker said of his camp experience. “I actually got to work out with coach (Bob) Shoop and just a few other players. He was just trying to show me how they did things up there. It was a good experience.

“It was really exciting because out of all the players there he picked me to work with. It just showed me where I stood with them.”

Although he’s a young prospect, Walker said he’s already visited Tennessee’s campus and likes what Butch Jones has built.

“I like how they are rising as a football program,” Walker said. “They’ve told me their team GPA has risen dramatically. And then they are a top five preseason, so that shows me Butch Jones has the program headed in the right direction.”

Walker already has offers from the Vols, Vanderbilt and Kentucky and that list could grow as he plans on camping at South Carolina, Clemson and Alabama this summer.

And while it’s extremely early in his recruiting process, Walker admits Tennessee has his attention.

“I’m really just enjoying the process, but if I had to pick a school that stands out the most it would probably be Tennessee,” Walker said. “I feel like they’ve just showed me the attention.”
