Tennessee’s 2018 recruiting class was dealt a major blow Tuesday morning, as 5-star offensive tackle Cade Mays officially decommitted from the Vols.
After being committed to Tennessee for more than two years, the Knoxville Catholic product tweeted out a lengthy statement explaining his decision.
Mays’ announcement comes on the heels of an unofficial trip to Georgia. The 5-star prospect will take an official visit to Ohio State this weekend and then go to Clemson on Nov. 18.
His finally official visit is set for Georgia on Dec. 15.
Mays, a U.S. Army All-American, is still tentatively scheduled to take an official visit to Tennessee for its regular-season finale against Vandy.
Mays committed to Tennessee on July 13, 2015. The Vol legacy instantly became the vanguard for the 2018 class, recruiting commits like Alontae Taylor, Greg Emerson and Adrian Martinez.
With the recent turmoil surrounding the program, Mays is now the fourth prospect to decommit from Tennessee since October.
