Tennessee has brought in Jackson Mathews to provide depth in the secondary.

The in-state product is the grandson of a former Vols coach.

Mathews grandfather, Doug Mathews, served as a defensive coordinator under Johnny Majors at Tennessee.

Now, Mathews is prepared to join the Vols' defense under Josh Heupel.

Currently, he helps his team on offense, defense and special teams but is prepared to begin his career as just a defensive back at Tennessee. However, his first chances will likely come on special teams.

"Just knowing stuff like that... not a lot of people want to play special teams, but that can change the game," Mathews told VolReport following his commitment.
