Tennessee was led by junior Ruby Whitehorn. She scored 16 points followed by Zee Spearman's 13 and Samara Spencer's 12.
This near record breaking mark comes after the Lady Vols' matchup with USF in the Round of 64 pulled in 684,000 viewers, the second most for a first round game played on a week day on record.
As a whole, this year's Sweet 16 was the second-most-watched on record. 1.7 million viewers was the average viewership as the round of eight games notched four of the top 10 most-watched ever for the round.
TCU's win over Notre Dame came in just behind Tennessee's match at 2.5 million viewers. This peaked at 3.5 million viewers and was the fourth-most-watched game in the round ever.
Oklahoma and UConn's bout along with Maryland and South Carolina were the other games to finish top 10 in the round's history.
