Feb. 20: No. 19 Oregon (L, 1-0)
Tennessee got its trip started with a gem from Karlyn Pickens that featured a record 77 mph pitch. Despite this, the Lady Vols' offense couldn't support the great pitching.
Due to this, the teams went to extra innings tied at 0. In the bottom of the eighth, a past ball with the bases loaded scored the winning run.
The offense produced just three hits in the game off the bats of Saviya Morgan, Laura Mealer and Kinsey Fielder.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Karyln Pickens - 7.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 13 K, 1 WP, 97 NP
Feb. 20: Oregon State (W, 10-0)
In the same afternoon, Tennessee responded in emphatic fashion. The Lady Vols blew past Oregon State in six innings due to rule-rule.
Following a rough game at the plate, Tennessee recorded 14 hits with five going for extra bases. Mealer left the yard for a home run, as well.
In the circle, it was Erin Nuwer getting the ball to start. She went the full game while only allowing two hits and no runs with seven strikeouts.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Sophia Nugent - 3 AB, 2 H, 4 RBI, 1 2B, 1 SF
Feb. 21: Rutgers (W, 10-1)
The following day, Tennessee got off on the right foot. The Lady Vols went on to earn a run-rule in just five innings of play.
Tennessee scored nine of its 10 runs in the final three frames. The overall production came on nine hits. Taylor Pannell and Emma Clarke hit home runs.
In the circle, Sage Mardjetko got the ball. She threw the full game while allowing just one run on two hits, a walk and six strikeouts.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Saviya Morgan - 3 AB, 3 R, 2 H, 1 RBI, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 SB
Feb. 21: No. 4 UCLA (L, 4-3)
Later in the day, Tennessee squared off with the fourth-ranked team in the country. The Lady Vols got off to a great start, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. This came off RBI singles from Pannell, Amaya Doyle and Destiny Rodriguez.
With Pickens on the mound, Tennessee was able to hold onto this lead until the fifth. Pickens was pulled with the bases loaded. Mardjetko got the call from the bullpen after starting the game before.
Four runs would cross due to a fielder's choice that scored one and a two-out bomb. The Lady Vols' offense didn't have enough in the tank to overcome the now one-run deficit.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Saviya Morgan - 3 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 SB
Feb. 22: Minnesota (W, 9-1)
After a heartbreaking loss the night before, Tennessee responded well. The Lady Vols ran past Minnesota for a five-inning run-rule win.
This time, it was three runs in both the first and second innings that got the game rolling. The only two homers of the game came from Pannell in the second frame and Sophia Nugent in the fourth.
In the circle, Pickens got the ball again. She went all five innings while allowing one run to cross off three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Taylor Pannell - 4 AB, 2 R, 4 H, 3 RBI, 2 2B, 1 HR
