Tennessee (39-13, 15-12 SEC), which beat the Commodores in the first game of the series last Friday before losing the next two, fell two spots to No. 17 in the latest D1Baseball Top 25 on Monday.
It marks then fourth consecutive week that the Vols have fallen in the poll.
Tennessee is one of nine SEC teams ranked this week, trailing newly-minted No. 1 LSU, No. 3 Texas, No. 6 Auburn, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 9 Vanderbilt and No. 10 Georgia.
Alabama moved up to No. 18 and Florida re-entered the rankings at No. 23.
The Vols enter the final week of the regular season in need of some momentum before the SEC Tournament begins in Hoover, Alabama next week.
Tennessee, which hosts Belmont on Tuesday (5 p.m. ET, SEC Network+) before a three-game series at Arkansas this weekend, have slipped in the national seed projections for the NCAA Tournament.
The Vols were the 9-seed in D1Baseball’s most recent postseason projections and no longer in line to host a Super Regional for the second-straight year.
A a top 10 series win over the Razorbacks and a potential run in the SEC Tournament could improve Tennessee’s standing.
“Good group of guys. Like being around them every day,” Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello said. “Obviously, they got a little fight to them. Certainly have capabilities. I think right now where I’m at is I’m responsible for guys playing and feeling confident…That ultimately is a choice. And you got some guys whose wheels have been spinning either on occasion or as we stand here right now kinda have that going on right now.
“So, whatever we can do to try and help them. Trust me, everybody’s trying about everything you can think of.”
