Tennessee continues to be represented on preseason All-American teams.

Two months before the Vols open the 2024 season, defensive lineman James Pearce Jr. and veteran offensive lineman Cooper Mays were tabbed Walter Camp Award Preseason First Team All-Americans on Tuesday.

Following a stellar sophomore campaign, Pearce is expected to be one of the top EDGE rushers in college football this season.

Pearce led the SEC with 14.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks during an All-SEC season in 2023.

He has combined for 16.5 TFL, 12 sacks, 17 quarterback hurries, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles over two seasons.

Pearce has an interception return for a touchdown in the Vols’ 35-0 thumping of Iowa in the Citrus Bowl in January.

Mays, who is entering his fifth season and fourth as a starter, will anchor an experienced Tennessee offensive line at center.

Mays hasn’t allowed a sack in 14-straight games and has given up just four in 2,075 career snaps.

Tennessee currently has 10 players that have been named to preseason All-American and All-SEC teams by various outlets.

The Vols open fall camp on July 31 and their season on Aug. 31 against Chattanooga at Neyland Stadium.
