Tennessee may soon be in the market for a new apparel provider.

The school is at least weighing its options as its current contract with Nike is nearing its end.

According to multiple reports, Tennessee is considering an apparel brand change as its Nike contract is set to run out on June 30, 2026 according to an amendment obtained by VolReport by request.

Tennessee, which was initially sponsored by Adidas for 16 years, inked a nine-year contract with Nike beginning in 2015 that ran through 2023.

An extension was signed in October 2016 by former athletic director Dave Hart that added three years to the contract.

Nike sponsors uniforms and apparel across all NCAA sponsored sports at Tennessee, including football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball.

According to the amendment from 2016, the "annual product allotment" for Tennessee was $3,600,000 in its second contract year with Nike in 2016-17.

In the third year, it increased to $3,700,000 and has increased or will increase by $100,000 through the 11th contract year in 2025-26.

The base compensation was $100,000 annually from the second to the eight contract year in 2022-23 and increased to $1,200,00 beginning in 2023-24.

According to the amendment, Tennessee and Nike had a negotiating window for a potential extension beginning in December 2024 through March 30–the “exclusive negotiating end date.”

With that deadline now passed, Tennessee can discuss and entertain offers from other apparel companies.

Tennessee could ultimately remain with Nike, using the negotiations to its advantage and have the company pay the school more in another amended contract.

But Tennessee—undoubtedly one of the more popular brands in college athletics—will have other options.

Adidas remains a possibility in part because of its previous, long-term relationship with the athletics department.

Tennessee signed with Adidas in 1995, and the brand provided the uniforms during the Vols’ dominating football run in the 1990s, including the program’s last football national title in 1998.

Adidas may be willing to bid more to bring Tennessee back into the fold. Current schools under contract with Adidas include Texas A&M, Miami and Nebraska.

An announcement of if or when Tennessee will extend its contract with Nike or sign with another brand has not been reported, though it could be on the horizon.

Auburn, for example, announced a 10-year deal with Nike in April 2024 that will go into effect this July, a little more than a year after the announcement was made.
