Johnson is coming off his second season with Tennessee and third in college.
As a redshirt sophomore, he appeared in five games including the first four of the season. In this time, he played 133 snaps.
His finest game of the year came in the opener against Chattanooga. There, he notched a PFF grade of 67.7. He also played well against Oklahoma on the road. In 41 snaps, he earned a 66.6 grade and 82.7 grade in pass protection.
As a true sophomore, Johnson played in just three games, including the Citrus Bowl win over Iowa. He saw a total of 21 snaps on the year for a season grade of 45.8 according to PFF.
Johnson's freshman year was spent in the junior college ranks with Hutchinson Community College. He was the No. 53 juco prospect as a 6-foot-6, 345-pound interior lineman.
He was named to the All-KJCCC first team as a freshman and helped lead the Blue Dragons to an undefeated regular season and a berth to the NJCAA National Championship game. This landed him offers from a dozen Division I programs before he picked the Vols.
While making the move to tackle, he played his final spring ball at Tennessee at 6-foot-7, 350 pounds.
Johnson was initially from Savannah, Georgia where he played high school football. He played for Jenkins High School, helping the program reach the AAA playoffs in four consecutive seasons.
