Over the summer, Tennessee extended 2026 guard Dakari Spear his first offer.

The Vols have continued to recruit the guard and Spear responded by taking a visit during the weekend of the Texas A&M football game.

He recapped the trip and talked about a family relationship in Tennessee’s favor with VolReport.

Spear was able to take in the atmosphere of a gameday at Tennessee and it left a significant impression.

“The visit went great," said Spear. "The great atmosphere all around the campus, especially at the football game, stood out to me the most.”

On that visit, he had the opportunity to take in a practice, where he was impressed by the practice environment.

"Another thing that stood out was how hard they went in practice and focused on running plays," said Spear.

Despite being in the 2026 class, he has already caught the attention of the coaching staff that has put that environment in place.

The all-around game of the 6-foot-4 guard is what stands out.

"The coaching staff tells me they like my shooting ability, playmaking and my ability to finish in both half-court and in transition," said Spear.

Among the coaching staff, he has connected with Rod Clark, an assistant with several ties in Texas. Spear currently attends high school just north of Dallas.

"The relationship with me and Coach Rod has been great," said Spear. "He has consistently stayed in touch with me and has expressed how much he loves my game. Not only does he tell me about what he likes, but he gave me some stuff to build on as well."

Spear has another intriguing new connection to the Tennessee athletic program.

His older sister, Jewel Spear, was one of the top women's players in the transfer portal this offseason. She ultimately chose to join the Lady Vols out of Wake Forest.

"It’s been cool for sure because she tells me her experience and connections, not only with the basketball team and coaches but also the teachers," said Dakari. "She’s loving it over there and the classes she takes, so I get a little taste of what life is like over there."

As Jewel helps the Lady Vols find success this season, the men's basketball program will continue to remain a factor in Dakari's recruitment as he comes into his own.
