Dooley fills another vacancy

Head coach Derek Dooley has filled one of his final two spots on his coaching staff. Dooley's newest hire is Charlie Coiner. And Coiner has plenty of ties to the Vol coaching staff.
Coiner spent last season on the North Carolina staff as the defensive line coach where he worked with new Vol offensive line coach Sam Pittman. In 1990, Coiner was on new Vol defensive line coach John Palermo's staff at Austin Peay.

And from 1995-1997, Coiner worked on the Louisville staff as the tight ends coach while Sal Sunseri worked on the defensive side of the ball.
Coiner has two previous stops in the SEC having worked at LSU in 1999 and at Vanderbilt from 1991-1993.
Prior to his work at North Carolina this past year, Coiner had worked in the NFL from 2001-2010 with stops in Chicago with the Bears and in Buffalo with the Bills.
Coiner was in Knoxville on Tuesday where he interviewed for the job and had dinner with several of Tennessee's staff members.
Coiner's hiring leaves Dooley with one vacancy on his staff. That vacancy is expected to be filled sometime after signing day and is thought to be a defensive position likely working in the secondary. The name most linked to that position is Central Florida defensive back coach Derrick Ansley, who spent the last two years as a graduate assistant at Alabama with Sunseri.
