Future Vols CB Brandon Cross finds home in his first visit to Rocky Top

When Orlando, Fla. defensive back Brandon Cross committed to the Vols it was a surprise to everyone, as the 5-10, 185 pound prospect chose the Vols without seeing them in person.

A week later, Cross got a chance to see his future home last Saturday at UT's 'Orange Carpet Day' event. It's safe to say that he and his mom left impressed.

“It definitely felt like home being my first time there,” Cross said. "I got to spent a lot of time with coach Jones and we really bonded well together. It lived up to my expectations. I am glad that I am committed and I'm glad it's my home.”

Cross' mother also got answers she needed about her son being away from home next year.

“She wanted to see that I was going to be protected and taken care of being nine hours away from home. Most importantly for her was academics,” Cross said. “The first thing I saw when I was on my visit was the academic center and she loved that.”

Secondary coach Charlton Warren saw Cross at a camp earlier this month and fell in love with Cross' speed and skill-set. At 'Orange Carpet Day,' Cross got to spend a lot of time with his future coach and loved the way they received him.

“I spent most of my time with coach Warren and with coach (Robert) Gillespie. I talked to coach (Butch) Jones a lot but he's the head coach so he's really busy,” Cross said. “They treated me like I'm another son to them. They are ready for me to finish my senior season strong and get up here and work.”

Cross said he loved everything about his time on Rocky Top, but one place on campus left the biggest impression on him.

“I would say the game day locker room. They have two different locker rooms and it's really live in the game day locker room. I can't wait till I'm a part of it.”

Cross said his plans to be in Knoxville a couple times this fall for home games.
