Guarantano misses Friday's practice to be with his family

Tennessee's quarterback competition was not a competition on Friday.

Head coach Butch Jones announced that redshirt freshman quarterback Jarrett Guarantano missed the Vols workout to be with his family. Guarantano's grandmother passed away earlier this week.

“He unfortunately had a death in the family. All of our thoughts and prayers to out to the entire Guarantano family. He's actually on a plane right now coming back to Knoxville and will be in meetings late tonight.”

Guarantano is battling junior Quinten Dormday for Tennessee's starting job. The two have rotated reps throughout training camp and both are likely to see action against Georgia Tech in the opener on Sept. 4.
