Tennessee football has revealed game designations for the 2025 season, which includes the iconic 'Checker Neyland' event.

This year, the Vols will coordinate colors for the game against Georgia on Sept. 13. Kick-off time and TV designation is yet to be determined.

This will be ninth time Tennessee has held a 'Checker Neyland' game. So, how have the Vols fared in previous versions?

Overall

Tennessee is 4-4 overall, but it didn't get out to a great start in the event.

The Vols lost two straight games to Florida and Oklahoma after the inception. It managed to down the Gators in 2016 for the first win.

In 2017, Georgia beat Tennessee 41-0 in Butch Jones' final year as coach. Under Jeremy Pruitt from 2018-2020, the Vols did not hold any 'Checker Neyland' games.

In Josh Heupel's first season, which coincided with the hiring of Athletic Director Danny White, the event was brought back. The Vols lost the first game against Ole Miss, but have followed it up with three-straight victories over Florida twice and Texas A&M.

2014: vs. Florida (L, 10-9)

In the first-ever 'Checker Neyland' game, Tennessee fell just short in a defensive battle. The Vols took a 3-0 lead into halftime and 9-0 edge into the fourth quarter.

However, Florida scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth to steal a win.

At quarterback, Tennessee had Justin Worley throw for 205 yards and two interceptions. The ground game was paced by Jalen Hurd who managed only 39 yards on 10 carries. Allton Howard totaled 79 receiving yards on six receptions.

The Vols came up with three interceptions on defense. Todd Kelly Jr., Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Cameron Sutton all came down with one.

2015: vs. Oklahoma (L, 31-24 in 2OT)

Tennessee welcomed Baker Mayfield and the Sooners to down the following year. The result was another gut-wrenching loss.

Early in the second quarter, the Vols got out to a 17-0 start. At halftime, the lead sat at 17-3. Oklahoma used a pair of touchdowns in the fourth to send it to overtime, though. There, both teams scored a touchdown in the first period before the Sooners scored a touchdown Tennessee couldn't respond to.

Mayfield, a future No. 1 overall pick and Heisman winner, was held in check by the defense. He threw for just 187 yards and three touchdowns while tossing two interceptions on 19-for-39 passing. Kelly came up with both picks.

Josh Dobbs was quarterback for Tennessee. He completed 13-of-31 passes for 125 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Hurd ran for 109 yards and a touchdown along with a Dobbs rushing score.

2016: vs. Florida (W, 38-28)

Tennessee got its first 'Checker Neyland' win in 2016 over Florida. Unlike the losses, the Vols didn't get out to a hot start, though.

Tennessee stared down a 21-0 hole as halftime quickly approached. The Vols tacked on a field goal heading into half.

What followed was five unanswered touchdowns before the Gators could respond with the game already out of hand. The one to take a lead was a 67-yard strike from Dobbs to Jauan Jennings down the sideline.

Dobbs finished 319 passing yards for four touchdowns and two picks. He also ran in a score. Jennings finished with 111 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Kelly added another pick in the game, too. That made four 'Checker Neyland' picks in three games for the defensive back.

2017: vs. Georgia (L, 41-0)

Before a hiatus, things got ugly in front of the iconically colored crowd. Tennessee dropped a game 41-0 to Georgia.

The Bulldogs took a 24-0 lead at half and never looked back.

Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano split time at quarterback but neither found success. As a team, the Vols threw for just 80 yards and two inteceptions, both by Dormady.

Running back John Kelly Jr. led the team in both receiving and rushing yards with a combined 91 yards.

2021: vs. Ole Miss (L, 31-26)

The event was reinstated in Heupel's first year as the head man. Tennessee held it with Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss coming to town.

The Vols narrowly lost in a game filled with emotion. Tennessee had a chance late, but Hendon Hooker went down with injury after throwing for 233 yards and a touchdown. Joe Milton III entered and fell just short of helping the Vols pull out a win.

Hooker also rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown in the game. Behind him, Jabari Small notched 92 yards and a score. Velus Jones Jr. led receivers with 93 yards but it was Cedric Tillman who caught the lone touchdown.

Trevon Flowers came up with an interception in the game.

2022: vs. Florida (W, 38-33)

Tennessee got back on track in the event against Florida in 2022. While it got sketchy at the end after an onside kick was recovered, the Vols managed to hold on to win.

The game was narrow most of the way, with Tennessee leading 17-14 at half after Hooker found Bru McCoy just before time expired. The Vols led by 17 in the fourth, but consecutive Gator touchdowns pulled the margin back within a score.

Hooker threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns in the game without an interception, but he did fumble. He also ran for a team-high 112 yards and a score. Running backs Small and Jaylen Wright both also rushed for touchdowns.

McCoy led receivers with 102 yards and a touchdown. Kamal Hadden came up with the game-sealing interception of Anthony Richardson on the final play of the game.

2023: vs. Texas A&M (W, 20-13)

Tennessee continued the win streak with a victory over Texas A&M the following year. This game wasn't pretty, though.

At halftime, the Aggies led 10-7. The difference maker proved to be a Dee Williams punt return that went 39 yards to the house. The Vols gave up one field goal in response but knocked town a pair in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Milton went 11-of-22 passing for 100 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the game. Wright ran for 136 yards and Chas Nimrod led receivers with 31 receiving yards.

Hadden and Gabe Jeudy-Lally came up with crucial late interceptions.

2024: vs. Florida (W, 23-17 in OT)

The most recent version of 'Checker Neyland' was also played against Florida. Tennessee's offense sputtered in the first half, taking a 3-0 deficit to the half.

The Vols' offense began to pick up from there, with two second-half touchdowns and a field goal. Dylan Sampson would punch in the game-winning touchdown in overtime.

Sampson ran for 112 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Nico Iamaleava threw for 169 yards and an interception with no touchdowns. Squirrel White led receivers with 71 yards.

Arion Carter came up with an interception.
