Tennessee football cemented itself deep in the race for four-star defensive end Anthony Jones, but couldn't win the recruiting battle.

Instead, Jones has picked UCLA, according to Rivals.

He chose the Bruins over the Vols and Washington.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound end definitely passes the eye-test. Auburn, California, Georgia, Michigan and UCLA were all among the 14 schools to get involved early on in his recruitment.

Although he's dropped out of the Rival250 in the 2026 cycle, he is a significant addition for UCLA. He also would've been a nice piece to the class for the Vols.

Tennessee currently holds the commitment of EDGE CJ Edwards but lost defensive end Tyson Bacon.

Jones was on campus a good amount for game day visits, too. He was in town for the 'Checker Neyland' win over Florida in overtime and returned to see Tennessee take down Alabama in a narrow rivalry victory.

Tennessee currently holds seven commitments in the 2026 class. The group ranks as the No. 20 class in the cycle to this point.

The unit is headlined by five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon. He is the No. 2 overall recruit and top quarterback in the class.

Behind him, Knoxville native and elite wide receiver Tyreek King is knocking on the door of being a five star. He currently sits as the No. 28 player in the class.

Other four stars include Carson Sneed at tight end and Gabriel Osenda as an offensive lineman. Both are in-state recruits along with King.

Three stars in the class are Edwards on the edge, Braylon Outlaw at linebacker and receiver Tyran Evans.
