The recruiting calendar gets accelerated for big time college prospects, and that’s especially true at the quarterback position. Brentwood Academy’s George MacIntyre may just be beginning his sophomore season, but the Class of 2025 prospect just landed an offer from Josh Heupel and Tennessee.

MacIntyre (6-foot-5, 180 pounds) attended camp at Tennessee this summer where he really caught the attention of the coaching staff. After watching one game tape from his sophomore year, Tennessee pulled the trigger on an offer.

‘It means a lot,” MacIntyre said of getting an offer from the home state school. “It’s really cool. My mom went to Tennessee and growing up in Nashville I’ve always kind of paid attention to them.”

Tennessee is hardly the only program to extend an early offer to MacIntyre. Michigan and Pittsburgh have offered and he’s got two other SEC offers from Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

There’s very obviously a long way to go in MacIntyre’s recruitment, but he’s already got some familiarity with Tennessee’s offense.

“We run the same, or at least a similar offense, to what Coach Heupel runs with the tempo and no-huddle. They’re probably more efficient than we are, but it’s a lot of fun to play in as a quarterback,” MacIntyre said.

Having played the position himself, Heupel is very hands on with Tennessee’s quarterbacks and has created a favorable early impression with McIntyre.

“I like Coach Heupel a lot,” he said. “ Tennessee’s been in a dry spell for a little while and he seems like the guy to bring them back.

“I also like Coach (Joey) Halzlie a lot. I learned a lot from him just at the one day camp I went to there. He’s really bright when it comes to quarterback mechanics and things and I’m still incorporating some of the things we talked about into my game.”

And his talk with Heupel after the offer drove home the point about what he sees that the two have in common.

“It was great,” MacIntyre said. “We talked for awhile about the fact that we run a similar offense, what he likes about my game and future visit dates.

“He likes my athletic ability at my size and my natural feel for the game.”

MacIntyre hasn’t made any firm plans yet but says that he intends to make it to Knoxville for at least one unofficial visit this fall to attend a home game.
