The Tennessee football program is expanding it's number of personnel. In 2017, Butch Jones is adding two analysts to his program.
One of those analysts is a familiar name. Volquest has confirmed that Gerald Brown is being hired by Jones and the University of Tennessee as an offensive analyst.
Gerald is the brother of former Vol assistant Kippy Brown growing up in East Tennessee where he attended Sweetwater High School. Brown got his start in coaching in 1983 as a graduate assistant for Tennessee head coach Johnny Majors. Brown and Jon Gruden were GA's in Knoxville together. Since that time, Brown coached in college and in the NFL. He spent six years (2008-2014) coaching running backs for the Atlanta Falcons. Brown has been back in Knoxville for the last year and gives a veteran voice to the offensive staff.
Additional sources indicate to Volquest that Jones and his football cabinet have made it a priority to enhance his staff with more veteran coaches in the analyst and quality control positions. Adding that the NFL experience is desired as Jones finishes up his staff for the 2017 season.
As for the vacant wide receiver coaching position, former Miami assistant Kevin Beard remains the front runner after interviewing at Tennessee over the weekend. He currently coaches receivers for Florida International and former Miami head coach Butch Davis.
