Miles excited to see the Vols in-depth

Just a week ago Suwanee, Ga., athlete Donnie Miles didn't have any scholarship offers until new Tennessee assistant coach Derrick Ansley sent him a message on Facebook to give him a call.

The next time the two talked Miles was surprised to learn that he had his first scholarship offer from the Vols.

"It was really surprising," Miles said. "Coach Ansley, the new cornerbacks coach there, I knew him from when he was at UCF, before he got to Tennessee, and he had sent me a friend request on Facebook and he told me to give him a call and I did and he told me I had an offer to Tennessee, so it was very surprising, but I like it."

While he was familiar with Ansley from his time coaching with the Knights, he's also somewhat familiar with Tennessee after visiting for a game last season.

"I went down there for a game last year when they played South Carolina and I know they have a big stadium and everything," Miles said. "It was pretty much just go to the game and leave, though."

He also has another connection to the Vols. Ja'Wuan James played his high school football at North Gwinnett, where Miles now goes and while he didn't pay much attention to it at the time, he does remember hearing of what James thought about Tennessee.

"They actually have a former player from my high school that starts at tackle for them," Miles said. "I remember him coming down and he acted liked he liked it up there and he loved it, but it was nothing I had ever thought of."

This weekend Miles will have a chance to see the Vols again for himself and this time will be able to finally meet Ansley as well as head coach Derek Dooley.

"I'll be there on Saturday. They want me to come down and talk to the head coach one-on-one," he said. "I'm just hoping to check out the facilities and everything and meet coach Ansley face-to-face. We've been talking on the phone and I've always thought he was a pretty cool coach. So, just meeting him in person and just checking out the facilities."

Tennessee and Duke are the only teams to offer Miles thus far and he says that the more he thinks about it, the more he likes the Vols.

"Right now, I'm liking it better each and every day, so far, what I'm learning about it and I think I like it more and more," he said.

The next school to offer could be North Carolina, Miles said.

"I talked to them the other day and they actually want me to come up and visit. They said they want to see me in person to offer me," Miles offered.
