Jerrod Means earned a Tennessee scholarship over the summer after showcasing well at one of its camps, and on the first day of the early signing period Wednesday, the Lovejoy (Ga.) wideout surprised some folks by signing with the Vols.
Means became Tennessee's first new edition to the class Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound wideout was committed to North Carolina until last month when a coaching change caused him to restart his recruitment. Rutgers and Kansas were both involved with Means, but after taking an official visit with Tennessee the final weekend before the dead period, he was strongly leaning toward the Vols due to his relationship with position coach David Johnson.
The question was timing for the Peach State native. Could he sign early with Tennessee?
With Baylor wideout commit Jaylen Ellis likely staying in Texas and Mississippi State wideout commit JaVonta Payton unlikely set for a decision today, Means became a priority target for Tennessee.
He is the second receiver in the 2019 class, joining 4-star Ramel Keyton.
