Quick HiTs: Fundamental focus

Stressing the need to work fundamentals in all aspects, Tennessee returned to the practice field Tuesday for the first time after its overtime loss to Georgia last Saturday.
The Vols were in pads and were challenged early by head coach Butch Jones, fresh off a Monday speaking appearance in Macon, Ga., with the bull-in-the-ring drill.

The first combatants? Curt Maggitt and Woody Quinn, who mostly stood toe-to-toe with Maggitt, who has not made his season debut and continues to have talk of redshirting swirling around him.
The Vols had several other battles, including both Kendall Vickers and Jaylen Miller going against offensive linemen, one of them being Marcus Jackson. Kenneth Bynum also appeared to dominate Tom Smith, who was told after the fact by Jones "You're now Tom Bynum!"
Tennessee went heavy emphasis on special teams, working kick returns, coverage and punts at length. The Vols also worked individually on teams drills by firing men off the ball in their coverage lanes. They moved during later periods into some one-on-one and individual work, with freshmen and younger players getting an opportunity for more repetitions while the veterans received a touch lighter workload in the open date. Antonio 'Tiny' Richardson did not dress, nor did Alex Bullard, who has had a walking boot on his right foot and used crutches since after the Georgia game.
Highly regarded 2015 prospect Dylan Jackson was a practice visitor, just three days after being an unofficial visitor at the Vols' game against Georgia. We've already caught up with Jackson earlier Tuesday and will have a full story soon. Jackson had talked to VolQuest.com about one of the things that most stood out about his experience on Saturday was the time spent with coaches.
"I got to spend some good time with Coach Jake (Mike Bajakian) and Coach Strip (Steve Stripling). Just talking about how our families doing, my football season," Jackson said. "I really liked that. I like that they take the time to get to know you more than just football."
