Taylor is officially a Vol

Lakeland, Fla. defensive end Trent Taylor was all set to be a Miami Hurricane. But when news broke of Miami's potential NCAA troubles, Taylor started looking around. One of the first schools that Taylor started talking with was Tennessee and on Wednesday night Taylor told the Tennessee coaches he wanted to be a Vol.

"He went on a visit up there and really liked it. He had a good feeling with Miami but the reason he opened things back up was because of the NCAA investigation and he wanted to go ahead and make a decision on what's best for him and his family," Lake Gibson defensive line coach Robert Whitaker said.

The 6-foot-3, 250 pound Taylor visited Tennessee officially for the Montana game and left Knoxville impressed with more than just the atmosphere of the game. One of the biggest reasons he committed to the Vols was because of his relationship with assistant coach Darin Hinshaw and Tennessee's staff as a whole.

"They kept recruiting him. They didn't take no for an answer and they didn't push Miami issues with him. They were just brutally honest with him about their expectations with him and Tennessee. In other words, they weren't trying to shun Miami or anything like that. They weren't trying to say 'You need to come here because of Miami,' and this and that. That was just not the case. They just recruited Trent as a defensive end and were relentless in recruiting him," Whitaker said.

Rivals.com ranks Talyor as a 4-star prospect and the number 21 strongside defensive end in the country and is a mid-term enrollee.
