After scraping out a game one win over Vanderbilt on Friday, Tennessee baseball fell short of clinching a series win in game two.
Instead, the No. 15 Vols were out-slugged in a 10-6 loss to the No. 11 Commodores.
Tennessee (39-12, 15-11 SEC) got three of its runs on solo shots courtesy of Hunter Ensley, Gavin Kilen and Andrew Fischer. This damage couldn't keep up with Vanderbilt's (35-16,15-11) rallies, though.

The Commodores put up crooked numbers in the fourth and sixth to account for seven of their runs scored. This came off a myriad of Vols pitchers.
Marcus Phillips got the ball, but didn't last long. He threw 3.2 frames while allowing five hits and five runs. He also struck out five batters.
This made way for Brandon Arvidson to enter. He allowed two runs in 1.1 innings. Behind him, Austin Breedlove allowed a run without getting an out. Dylan Loy also got a run pinned on him after 0.1 innings of work.
AJ Russell was bumped out of his Sunday spot that's been a revolving door for most of the season. He came out of the bullpen this time to throw 3.2 innings where he didn't allow an earned run and struck out five.
With Russell used on Saturday, this likely lines up a Sunday start for freshman Tegan Kuhns. Outside of the starters and Russell, the bullpen is in good shape, too, for a winner-take-all game three in Knoxville.
WHAT HAPPENED
Things didn't get off to a great start for Phillips. After hitting a batter, Rustan Rigdon, on his first pitch of the game, the runner stole second and third. A grounder was enough to push the run across.
Tennessee responded in the bottom of the first, though. Ensley picked up right where he left off after a brilliant game on Friday with a two-run shot off the scoreboard in right field. This gave the Vols a run advantage after one frame.
In the third, Vanderbilt added another run to its score. The Commodores used a groundout to push across a runner from third to tie the game up at two.
Vanderbilt took the lead in the fourth. With Phillips getting pulled in this inning, he allowed a two-run shot and RBI single. In the fifth, with Arvidson in the game, the bleeding continued with another run crossing.
However, in the bottom of the fifth, Tennessee began to chip away. Dalton Bargo and Dean Curley put together back-to-back RBI, two-out singles to make it a 6-4 game.
In the top of the sixth, Arvidson walked the lead-off batter. Breedlove came in and moved the runner to second on an error during a pick-off move and allowed a single. This made way for Loy to enter who struck one out and walked another to load the bases.
With one down and the bases juiced, Russell came on. He allowed back-to-back singles with all three runners originally on base coming across. He induced a double-play ball, but the throw from Curley was well off the mark leading to a run scoring.
By the end of the nightmare inning for Tennessee, the Vols had allowed four additional runs to cross. This made it a 10-4 game.
Tennessee fired back in the seventh, though. The Vols used back-to-back homers from Kilen and Fischer to lead off the inning to grab two runs. Ensley followed it up with a single a strikeout and double play ball rolled by Curley ended the inning.
The eighth and ninth innings saw no real threats as the score settled by four in the favor of Vanderbilt.
UP NEXT
The third game of the series is set for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday. It will air on ESPN2, as well. The Vols have not announced their pitcher for the third game yet.
