Tennessee basketball has missed on one of its top portal targets of the cycle.

Dynamic guard Isaac McKneely out of Virginia has announced his commitment to Louisville.

He has one year of eligibility remaining as he enters his true-senior season. He took a visit to see the Vols in person earlier this week.

McKneely played all three of his collegiate seasons to this point with the Hoos. In his most recent junior campaign, McKneely started in all 32 games he appeared in. Under interim coach Ron Sanchez, he averaged 14.4 points per game on 43.9% shooting from the field and 42.1% on 3-pointers.

This efficiency from range ranked first in the ACC. He made seven 3-pointers against Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament, as well, reaching a career-high mark in his final game with Virginia.

He also passed for 2.9 assists and grabbed 2.7 rebounds per game.

While playing for a struggling Hoos team that missed the NCAA Tournament, McKneely earned a spot as an All-ACC honorable mention and NABC All-District East Second Team.

Tennessee got an up-close look at McKneely this past season while playing him in The Bahamas. The Vols won 64-42 while limiting McKneely to four points, three rebounds and three assists.

"All our analytics tell us that it’s not an anomaly, that he’s real," Tennessee assistant coach Gregg Polinsky said about McKneely before the game. "I got to see him up close, but my first inclination is he’ll have a chance to play basketball for a while because he can make contested shots. And that’s what that league is, right? With the length, NBA or Euroleague or Eurocup, whatever he ends up playing, he’s a really, really good basketball player. I would call him an elite level shooter. Last year, he was about 45% from three. This year, he’s about 65% on threes. And if you watch the shots he makes, they look like shots that guys make to the next level."

As a sophomore, McKneely started in all 33 games he appeared in under National Champion coach Tony Bennett. He produced 12.3 points per game on 40.9% shooting from the field and 44.5% on 3-pointers. This went with three rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.

As a freshman, he played in 33 games and started one while playing 21.5 minutes per game. He averaged 6.7 points per outing.

McKneely was a four-star prospect out of high school in the 2022 class. As the No. 78 overall player and No. 14 shooting guard, he chose to join Virginia out of Poca, West Virginia.

He also held notable offers from Creighton, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, NC State, Ohio State, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

The Vols were not involved in his high school recruitment.
