Tennessee basketball guard Chaz Lanier is being rewarded for his dominant game against Texas A&M.

Despite the Vols and Lanier playing just one game last week, Lanier was awarded Co-SEC Player of the Week.

He shares the award with Alabama's Mark Sears.

This is the third time this season Lanier has been named SEC Player of the Week. He also earned the nod the week of Nov. 25, 2024, and Jan. 6, 2025.

In the Vols' road win over Texas A&M in a top-10 clash, Lanier was a massive factor. He scored 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field and 6-for-7 shooting from range in the first half alone.

By the end of the game, Lanier pushed his line to a season-high 30 points on 10-for-18 shooting from the field and 8-for-13 on 3-pointers. He also added five rebounds to his line.

"We wanted to spread them out to start with," Vols head coach Rick Barnes said on Lanier's performance after the game. "We wanted to spread them out and all we wanted to do with Chaz is get him a little bit of separation. He’s gotten so much better he’s seen all kinds of defenses. Again, I don’t think anybody’s being fouled more than he’s being fouled. I told Fran Fraschilla last night, I said, watch how much his shirt tail is out. He gets grabbed and pulled and we’re just trying to screen him to get him a little separation. As you know, he has got a quick release, but I love the fact he started the last couple weeks driving the ball downhill to make people not able to always just sit on his jump shot. But he’s worked hard, his teammates believe in him and, again, we’ve seen him do it. He’s done it before, early in the year. He had 25 points in the first half against Baylor and so we’ve seen him do that. And he’s had other games like that but just really proud of the fact that he is continuing to try to get that better every day."

Lanier has also garnered national attention for his play this season. He earned a spot on the 2025 Naismith Trophy Midseason Team along with a spot on the 2025 Wooden Award Late Midseason Top 20 Watch List.
