Tennessee athletics was just seconds short of adding more SEC Championship hardware to the trophy case.

On Sunday, the first-ever SEC Rowing Championship was held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, just outside of Knoxville.

The No. 4 Lady Vols came up just three seconds short of No. 2 Texas in the deciding 1V8+ race. Tennessee finished with a time of 6:15.586 behind the Longhorns' 6:12.420.

"It was really exciting to watch our team and cheer for them," head coach Kim Cupini said. "We just told the women that we wanted to have them in there and fight against Texas. We knew they were going to be fast."

The event saw Tennessee win three races, taking home gold medals in those events. The Lady Vols also claimed a trio of silver medals.

Other programs competing in the event were No. 24 Oklahoma and Alabama.

"The venue rocked," Cupini said. "Tennessee always rocks it at home, and to have such fans is awesome. Seeing fans of other schools, as well, was really cool."

Tennessee now will wait to hear its seeding in the NCAA Championship. The selection show is set for Tuesday, May 20 at 5 p.m. ET.

The event is scheduled for May 30-June 1 in Mercer, New Jersey.
