Tennessee football is one of the finalists for a top running back in the 2026 class.
Jonaz Walton, a four-star back who ranks as the No. 192 player in the country and No. 7 player at his position, is choosing between the Vols, Stanford, Notre Dame, Florida and Alabama.
He announced he will make his decision public on Wednesday, May 14.

The decision will air on YouTube at 3 p.m. ET. He will do it at Central High School where he currently attends.
This is in Carrollton, Georgia. He is the No. 28 player in the state.
Walton has taken a good amount of visits to his top schools. This includes Tennessee.
His first recorded visit was on Sept. 30, 2023. This was in the days leading up to the Vols playing UTSA.
When the calendar turned to 2024, he got back to Knoxville on Feb. 3. He also made a trip to campus on June 23 that year.
In 2025, he got his first look of the year on April 7. He also set up an official visit for June 20, but will now be committed to his school of choice by the time he makes the trip.
His other official visits he has set up for the summer are Alabama (May 30), Florida (June 6) and Notre Dame (June 13). He already took an official visit to Stanford on April 24.
It is currently unclear if he will still take these official visits or cancel the trips to schools he doesn't choose in his commitment on Wednesday.
Although Tennessee initially had the final word with Walton set up, it isn't the favorite to win the bidding. Instead, predictions are flying in for Notre Dame.
The Irish have landed a forecast to land Walton from Rivals National Analyst Sam Spiegelman.
"The campus looked amazing," Walton previously told Rivals about Notre Dame. "You can see the culture established in the program. You can also see from talking to the coaches how much they care about the players and the other coaches ... The one-on-one time with the coaches was great -- I got to know them more -- more about them as fathers and outside of being a coach. They are all about team success."
If it does play out how the experts think it will, Tennessee isn't without hope of landing a top back, though. The Vols are heavily involved in the recruitment of Savion Hiter.
Hiter, a four-star in the 2026 class, ranks as the No. 50 player in the class and No. 2 running back in the cycle. Michigan, Georgia and Ohio State are the other in the running.
