Tennessee softball roundup: Lady Vols welcome Oklahoma to the SEC

Tennessee softball bounced back in a big way after losing a series to Arkansas.

With no midweek action, the No. 10 Lady Vols traveled to No. 2 Oklahoma and claimed the series.

Here's what happened.

March 28: at Oklahoma (W, 5-2)

Tennessee got its trip to Oklahoma started with a bang. The Lady Vols took the opening game of the set by three runs in eight innings.

In the top of the eighth, the Lady Vols broke the tie at two with a Sophia Nugent two-run home run and score on a wild pitch. This was enough to hold on to the win.

In the circle, Sage Mardjetko got the start and went 2.1 innings while allowing one run. Then, Karlyn Pickens got the ball, going 5.2 frames and allowing one run and earning the win.

March 29: at Oklahoma (L, 4-1)

With a chance to take the series, the Lady Vols' offense couldn't produce enough in game two. This resulted in a narrow loss to even things up.

Tennessee got one run off a Taylor Pannell solo shot in the fourth. By that point, the Sooners had already scored their four runs.

Mardjetko go the start again going three innings and allowing four runs. Then, Erin Nuwer went the next three without giving up a run on just one hit.

March 30: at Oklahoma (W, 5-3)

With the series on the line, Tennessee found a way to win. The Lady Vols trailed 3-0 heading into the fourth before putting up five runs.

This came on a two-RBI double from Laura Mealer before Ella Dodge lifted a three-run bomb into the stands to take the lead.

Pickens threw all seven innings while allowing three runs to cross on just four hits. She struck out six batters, as well.
