Vols roll to Lexington minus Quinten Dormady

After serving as Tennessee’s backup quarterback against both South Carolina and Alabama, junior signal-caller Quinten Dormady will not be available at Kentucky.

Sources tell Volquest.com that Dormady did not make the trip to Lexington, Kentucky and is expected to have shoulder surgery.

Dormady started the first five games of the 2017 season for Tennessee, going 3-2. But the Vols were shutout for the first time in 23 years in the 41-0 loss to Georgia, prompting Butch Jones to make a quarterback change with redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano.

Dormady was tied for the league-lead with six interceptions during his five game stretch as the starter.

Even with the quarterback change, Tennessee’s offense remains stuck in netural on offense, having not scored an offensive touchdown in 14 quarters.

The last time they found pay dirt came off the right arm of Dormady, who found Tyler Byrd in the closing moments of the first half against UMass.

Last week, the Texas native spent two days in Chicago getting his shoulder looked at the Wednesday and Thursday before the Alabama game. He returned to Knoxville and made the trip to Tuscaloosa but didn't play in the game.

Dormady's absence puts more pressure on true freshman Will McBride, who now moves one spot up the depth chart and will backup Guarantano. McBride has not played this year and the plan has been to redshirt him.

The Vols offense has continued to sputter despite the change at quarterback, with Guarantano throwing for just 177 yards overall in his first two games as the main signal-caller for Tennessee.

The highlight of Dormady's five game stretch was his come from behind win over Georgia Tech to begin the season.
