Tennessee's season in on the brink.

The Vols fell behind by four runs early, mounted a comeback to draw even in the sixth inning, and were unceremoniously walked off on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom ninth by Wake Forest, 7-6 on Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, forcing a winner-take-all Knoxville Regional final.

Tennessee (46-17), which totaled six hits and an error, fell behind in the first after a shaky start from starting pitcher Dylan Loy. The gap widened after reliever Brandon Arvidson gave up five runs to give the Demon Deacons a (39-21) a 6-2 lead in the fourth.

Andrew Fischer and Levi Clark each homered in the fifth and sixth, respectively to get the Vols back in it, and Arvidson recovered to hold off Wake Forest, striking out 12 while allowing five hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Tennessee was unable to take advantage with runners on, though, including in the top of the ninth, and now its season in on the line.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Dylan Loy worked a quick out in his start, but Marek Houston followed it up with a solo home run to right in the bottom of the first inning.

It was the first time that Tennessee had trailed in the Knoxville Regional, but Loy recovered with a strikeout to keep the deficit at one run.

Loy was pulled after giving up a walk in the second, but Brandon Arvidson stranded the runner before the Vols got the bats going in the third.

It started with Manny Marin reaching on a two-out error that Wake Forest pitcher Logan Lunceford was unable to grasp. Gavin Kilen made them pay for it with a double to right-center that scored Marin to draw Tennessee even at 1-1.

Andrew Fischer provided the Vols their first lead with a single to right that brought Kilen across to go up, 2-1.

The Demon Deacons answered in the bottom half of the frame, aided by a throwing error from Dean Curley that put two runners in scoring position with no outs. Kade Lewis grounded at first to score one, then Jack Winnay doubled to left-center to add another to give Wake Forest the lead back, at 3-2.

Dalton Wentz extended the inning with a double down the line in left to stretch the lead to 4-2.

Wake Forest added to its lead again in the fourth, going up 6-2 on Javar Williams' two-run shot to right, but Tennessee responded in the fifth on a two-run homer from Fischer over the batter's eye in center to trim the Vols' deficit to 6-4.

Arvidson stranded a runner in the bottom fifth, then the bats came through for Tennessee again in the sixth with Levi Clark mashing a two-run home run into right that tied the game, 6-6.

Arvidson continued to settle in, holding off Wake Forest until Nate Snead replaced him in the seventh.

Snead gave up a hit, but struck out the following batter to strand two runners. He ran into a similar situation in the bottom eighth.

After Dalton Bargo lost a high fly ball in the lights for a Jimmy Keenan two-out triple, Snead got Williams swinging and sent Tennessee into the ninth still tied.

But Snead unraveled in the bottom ninth, allowing two singles and walk to load the bases. Against Winnay, all four of Snead's pitches were balls to bring in the winning run and force another game on Monday.
