Tennessee (27-7) was the third highest ranked SEC team behind No. 3 Florida and No. 4 Auburn, while Alabama was one spot behind the Vols at No. 7.
Kentucky (18), Texas A&M (19) and Missouri (23) rounded out the league in the poll.
A record 14 SEC teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, with Tennessee grabbing the 2-seed in the Midwest Regional.
The Vols will open with 15-seed Wofford at Rupp Arena in Lexington on Thursday (6:50 p.m. ET, TNT).
The Terriers clinched their bid by winning the Southern Conference Tournament.
“I’ve said it every year, you don’t ever take it for granted,” Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes said. ”And the fact that I think this team has worked really hard to put themselves in a position to get where we are right now. And obviously we know what every game is about this tournament, but we’re just proud of this group because we’ve only had two guys that have really experienced that and the three guys that really experienced it and so I’m excited for them.
“And we’ll look at as it’s a four-team tournament when you break it down and that’s what we got to get ready for.”
