Tennessee's path
Tennessee opened its run in the 2025 NCAA Tournament with a win over 15-seed Wofford. The Vols pulled away from the Terriers to win 77-62 in Lexington, Kentucky.
The leading scorer for Tennessee was Chaz Lanier. The first-year transfer out of North Florida dropped 29 points on 11-for-22 shooting from the field and 6-for-13 shooting on 3-pointers. This was the third-most points ever scored by a Vol in an NCAA Tournament game and most in a win during the tournament.
This pushed Tennessee to a fourth-straight Round of 32 berth. In that round, the Vols matched up with 7-seed UCLA. Tennessee survived, again, this time 67-58.
Leading the way was Lanier. He produced 20 points while knocking down four threes. This pushed him into first place for most threes made in a single season by a Tennessee player.
This put the Vols in the Sweet 16 against 3-seed Kentucky. Tennessee handled business, 78-65, behind a strong night from Zakai Zeigler.
The senior point guard produced 18 points and 10 assists.
Houston's path
Top-seeded Houston opened up its run with 16-seed SIUE. The Cougars had no issue, winning 78-40 in Wichita, Kansas.
The effort was led by Milos Uzan who produced 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field.
The next game saw Houston face 8-seed Gonzaga. The Bulldogs didn't have enough, though, as the Cougars won 81-76. This time, it was L.J. Cryer dropping 30 points to push them into the Sweet 16.
This put Houston in a matchup with 4-seed Purdue. The game went down to the wire before the Cougars scored with just 0.9 seconds left on an inbound. The final score sat at 62-60.
Houston was led by Uzan again who finished with 22 points.
